aliceinemoji is a digital storytelling project that retells Alice in Wonderland through emojis on Instagram. Each post translates part of the story into a sequence of visual symbols, using the familiar structure of social media to present the narrative in a new way.
The project explores how a story can still be understood with limited text, using emojis, sequencing, and the Instagram format to guide the viewer through Alice’s journey.
Platform Research
I compared Instagram, Pinterest, and Spotify to see how different platforms could support visual storytelling. I chose Instagram because its post-based format, familiar navigation, and focus on visual content worked best for telling the story through a sequence of emojis.
